Antoine Court de GébelinCorrect!  The answer is A.  French-speaking Swiss occultist Antoine Court de Gébelin (see illustration) was the first individual to write that Tarot was invented by the Ancient Egyptians.  He did so in 1781 in his Monde primitif (The Primative World), which also included similar opinions by the Comte de Mellet, a fellow occultist.  I am quick to add that no evidence to support this theory exists and modern Tarot historians have long rejected it.
